This is an exciting opportunity for experienced and motivated Network Support engineer / enterprise professional to join Police Scotland’s Technical Support Unit, System Support and Development team.
You will play a key role in the design, implementation, administration, and support of a secure, resilient, and operational critical enterprise network. Working across a complex technological environment, you will ensure availability, performance and the security of critical network services while supporting ongoing transformation projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain enterprise network infrastructure across, LAN, WAN, WLAN and data centre environments.
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot network technologies, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure.
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows / Linux servers, monitoring performance to ensure high availability.
- Design, implement, and manage Cisco network infrastructure, including Next‑Generation Firewalls (NGFW) and Identity Services Engine (ISE)
- Implement, manage, and secure site‑to‑site and remote‑access VPNs
- Issue and maintain public‑key infrastructure and digital certificates to enable secure encryption, mutual authentication, and trusted identity across services.
- Deploy, configure, and support core business applications, handling upgrades and integrations.
- Create and maintain AD objects, group policies, and domain trusts; troubleshoot authentication and permission issues.
- Produce architecture documentation, define standards, and oversee change‑control processes.
- Implement and maintain security ensuring best practices across servers, networks, AD, and applications, safeguarding the environment.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, propose technical solutions, and guide project teams through implementation challenges.
- Deliver tier‑1/2/3 support both remotely and on‑site across multiple platforms (Windows and mobile devices)
- Participate in change management, incident management and out-of-hours support arrangements where required, ensuring consistent, high‑quality service delivery.
- Work with suppliers and third-party partners to resolve technical issues, deal with warranty claims, and service‑level agreements.
- Identify opportunities to improve network resillnace, automation, performance, and operational efficiency.
- Support procurement planning and applications, assessing hardware/software requirements, there technical suitability, cost effectiveness, and compliance with standards.
Essential Experience
- Strong practical experience in enterprise‑level server and network administration with a proven ability to work independently on complex infrastructure environments.
- Proven expertise with Cisco NGFWs, ISE, and related routing/switching hardware.
- Strong background in Windows Server, AD, and virtualisation platforms (VMware)
- Cisco networking experience and/or CCNA, CCNP or equivalent certification.
- Ability to produce clear technical documentation and enforce governance policies.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A customer‑focused methodology.
This will be Monday-Friday 0900-1700.
A driving licence is required for this role.
