As you can imagine the role has evolved over the years and now is an integral part policing across England, Scotland and Wales, even internationally in countries like the United States and Canada. We always say being part of history is something amazing and joining up to being a Special Constable is certainly that.

Special Constables come from all walks of life, we currently have: teacher, taxi drivers, accountants and secretaries all working for the Special Constabulary.

If any of the above is for you, then you will love the role of Special Constable and here is why:

  • Your time is precious therefore, you only need to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours a month.

  • Give you the same warranted powers and uniform as regular officers.
  • Make sure you are supported, cared for and have regular catch ups with your supervisor.
  • Get the opportunity to be involved in a variety of policing needs from response, neighbourhood and local/ national events.

Please note, commitment throughout our recruitment journey is vital and whilst, we will actively support you through the process as much as possible, failure to engage in the process will result in your application being withdrawn.
