Intelligence Supervisor - Somerset Intelligence Team

We have an exciting opportunity to join The Intelligence Department within Avon and Somerset Police as an Intelligence Unit Supervisor. In this role you will be leading proactive, diverse teams who are responsible for identifying and targeting all levels of criminality and safeguarding within vulnerable communities.

The following role and locations are available: A job-share which will cover Wednesday-Friday. It will be 22.5 hours. You can nominate your fixed working location (Bridgwater, Taunton or Yeovil)  but as a supervisor will be required to work from the other locations listed.

Shift work: Normal office working hours however the successful candidate will be required to cover 1 weekend in 5 as part of a rota.

Key responsibilities include:-

  • Manages the day-to-day operation of the Intelligence Team being responsible for workload management, resourcing gaps, resilience, coaching, wellbeing, performance, development and delivering the Intelligence Grid training Portfolio.
  • Presenting and briefing intelligence investigations, including risk assessment, gaps and recommendations at Force Level meetings such as Weekly Intelligence Meetings and Local Tasking and Coordination Meetings in line with the strategic and tactical intelligence requirements and the policing priorities.
  • Conducts proportionate reviews and risk assessments, setting intelligence strategies and collection plans in relation to high-risk intelligence reports and policing issues using national guidelines such as MoRiLE (National threat, harm, risk assessment matrix) and subsequent advice and recommendations to decision makers at Silver (tactical command) and Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) level.
  • To take the lead role of LRO (Lead Responsible Officer) for Tier 3 and 4 OCG's where monitoring and intel development are taking place, developing plans and strategies, drawing on experience and expertise to make decisions to take forward for intervention. To provide specialist advice and guidance to LROs on Tier 2 OCGs.
  • Provides a consultancy service on intelligence processes, intelligence products and intelligence services, providing guidance on overt and covert tactics and signposting stakeholders and colleagues to the relevant department or resource.
  • Proactively identify and implement opportunities for innovation and improvement across the Intelligence team, contributing to change management and project work. 

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

Must have IPP (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme) accreditation or be willing to gain it within two years.

Investigative or intelligence experience and mindset.

Strong communication skills and a passion to forge relationships with key stakeholders.

Willingness and enthusiasm to deliver CPD to other leaders and practitioners.

The ability to work proactively and lead a team with minimum supervision.

Must hold a full and current driving licence.
