Yorkshire and the Humber are looking to recruit a number of Senior Crime Scene Investigators to be based across the YaTH region, in substantive and acting up positions for the next 12 months.
The CSI Hubs are situated in: Ossett, Leeds, Bradford, Sheffield, York, Thirsk, Harrogate, Scarborough, Hull & Scunthorpe.
Candidates should be Advanced Crime Scene Investigators, or equivalent, showing potential to progress to the role of Senior Crime Scene Investigators.
This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who are wishing to progress their career within the Crime Scene Investigation profession. Candidates will have knowledge of the practical techniques used to examine more serious and major crime scenes.
Candidates will be capable of learning quickly, have good communication skills, and be able to deal with the effects of crime ranging from dealing appropriately with distressed victims, through to the impact on individuals at scenes of extreme violence.
In addition, you must hold a full current UK/European driving license, and have a flexible, positive attitude to borderless working to ensure a full regional Crime Scene Investigation service.
Training and Development
Senior Crime Scene Investigators in the region are trained to high national standards, working to strict regulations and procedures. If not already qualified as a Senior Crime Scene Investigator, successful candidates will attend the College of Policing Crime Scene Investigation Stage 2 course. This will be delivered locally, over 4 weeks, on full-time hours Monday to Friday. On successful completion of the Stage 2 training course, and the associated Senior Crime Scene Investigator Baseline Assessment, you will work independently attending all types of crime scenes, including serious and major crime, recovering forensic evidence in support of criminal investigations.
Remuneration and work pattern
You will be expected to work in a 7-day, 24 hour rotating shift pattern. This includes night-time working if based in West or South Yorkshire OR participating in an overnight on call rota if based in North Yorkshire or the Humberside area. The shift pattern includes weekend working with two weekends out of three worked. You will be paid monthly; plus additional shift and weekend working allowances, and on-call payments in North Yorkshire and the Humberside areas.
You will be entitled to a generous annual leave allowance, which increases with service. You will be automatically enrolled into the local government pension scheme. All candidates will have opportunity to develop into the advanced Senior CSI role.
Assessment and Interview
Candidates will need to complete an electronic application form. From this, successful candidates will be invited to our CSI Training Centre in Wetherby for a practical scene assessment. Candidates will be offered a 2-hour time slot on either 12th, 13th or 14th October.
Candidates who meet the prior agreed pass mark on practical assessment will be invited to a CVF based interview. Interviews will take place between 19th – 22nd October at Wetherby. Interview dates and times will be confirmed with candidates at the conclusion of all practical assessments.
If applying for the role, you will need to be available during these dates, to fulfil both parts of the process, alternative dates will not be offered.
A regional succession list will be held from this process for 12 months from the 22nd October for ALL acting and substantive positions.
