The responsibilities of the role include:
Provide leadership, supervision and professional guidance to a team of Prison Intelligence Officers operating across 12 prisons within the Eastern Region.
Oversee the collection, development and management of prison intelligence, ensuring activity aligns with national, regional and force priorities. Support Prison Intelligence Officers with operational policing matters and contribute to maintaining safety and security within prison establishments. Develop and coordinate tactical plans and disruption activity that support the priorities and objectives of the ERSOU ROCU Control Strategy.
Lead the HMPPS Counter Corruption Investigation Team, working closely with HMPPS corruption, crime and policing teams to investigate and prosecute corrupt prison staff.
Build strong partnerships with Prison Intelligence Officers, HMPPS and law enforcement colleagues to identify, develop and share intelligence relating to serious and organised crime (SOC) within prisons.
Work with partner agencies to monitor and influence the management of organised crime group members in custody, developing effective disruption tactics and enforcement opportunities.
Lead the planning and delivery of complex investigations and operations targeting corrupt HMPPS staff and those seeking to exploit or corrupt the prison system, acting as Deputy Senior Investigating Officer where required and providing operational oversight, direction and support to investigative teams.
Manage and develop a team of investigators, ensuring compliance with legislation, codes of practice, evidential standards and authorised professional practice.
Oversee and deputy SIO the preparation of high-quality case files for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service and support cases through the criminal justice process, including trials and hearings.
Maintain flexibility to work from prison establishments and ERSOU locations across the region, adapting to operational demands, different locations and varying shift patterns as required.
