Director of Finance and Resources

This is an exciting and pivotal opportunity to join our Chief officer team and play a key role in shaping and delivering policing services across one of the most diverse and beautiful regions in the UK.

Role Purpose 

To act as the Chief Constable's senior strategic adviser on all matters relating to financial planning, effective use of the resources, continual improvement of information technology and proactive development of people management processes and practices.

To participate fully in the strategic management and direction of the force as a member of the Chief Constable's Chief Officer Team, whilst directing, controlling and coordinating areas responsible to this post, in line with the corporate and strategic objectives of the force.


Skills Required for the role

  • Proven Leadership skills
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive and thorough understanding of strategic business skills (including corporate finance, resources, data technology, procurement, business partnering, commissioning and collaboration) together with a clear understanding of policing priorities to be able to negotiate on all aspects of organisational capability.
  • Demonstrate strategic leadership skills to manage the risks created by the demands of a challenging financial environment in relation to the provision of policing services to communities.
  • Create an environment that encourages an innovative and engaged workforce culture, whilst ensuring effective resource leverage and utilisation, value for money, cost reduction and maintained or improved performance.
  • Articulate and communicate an inclusive vision for the financial future of the organisation incorporating your leadership style, values, decision making skills and emotional intelligence. Demonstrate how you will make positive contribution to the police service funding challenges.
  • Experience in Senior Leadership roles in medium to large organisations.
  • Experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience in presenting complex ideas and proposals at Board and Executive Level. 

Recruitment Process 

Stage 1 : Application  The process to select a Director of Finance & Resources will begin by the submission of a CV (no more than 2 pages) and covering letter (no more than 2 pages). The covering letter should detail how your experience and leadership style will be applied to the Director of Finance & Resources role to address the key challenges facing North Wales Police now and in the future whilst being mindful of the CVF and the requirements of the role. Stage 2: Shortlisting The applications will be reviewed by a shortlisting panel. Shortlisting will be concluded by 04/08/26

Stage 3: Assessment The shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview which will take place on 18/08/26 – 19/08/26 and will consist of an interview and a pre-prepared presentation. Candidates will be informed of the results of the recruitment process within 24 hours of conclusion of the process.  

Stage 4: Conditional Offer and Pre-Employment Checks The successful candidate will be issued with a conditional offer and will be sent the links to commence pre-employment checks, Subject to passing relevant checks, an unconditional offer will be issued and a start date will be agreed
