SUPERINTENDENT TO CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT PROMOTION PROCESS

You will play a critical strategic role to delivering first-class policing service to the public aligned with the South Wales Police Delivery Plan.
We are currently seeking applications from substantive and suitably qualified Superintendents / Detective Superintendents who are interested and eligible for promotion to Chief Superintendent / Detective Chief Superintendent.
Eligibility Criteria
• Satisfactory performance appraisal over last two consecutive years (please email confirmation of ratings/scoring along with your application to talent@south-wales.police.uk).
• Not subject to any current live written warning or final written warning issued under the Police (Conduct) Regulations.
• Not subject to any live Written Improvement Notices for performance or attendance issued under Police (Performance) Regulations. Or, a reduction in rank under those procedures in the previous 18 months.
• An acceptable level of attendance.
Selection process
In your online application, you are required to upload a recent CV consisting of no more than 2 pages of A4.
Additionally, please evidence the below:
1. Skills, knowledge and experience that make you ready for promotion to the rank of Chief Superintendent now (maximum 400 words).
2. An example of when you have developed a representative workforce and promoted a culture that values equality, diversity and inclusion (maximum 400 words).
Providing you meet the above criteria your application will be considered and the process includes:
• Endorsement from your Head of Department / BCU Commander to confirm your readiness for promotion to the next rank.
• Shortlisting process.
• Force interview and assessment board.
• Any offer of appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, vetting and continued good conduct and maintenance of fitness.
• External candidates will in addition be subject to a medical examination and vetting.
• Chief Constable final ratification.
Level 2 Welsh is required however if you do not have this requirement, you would be expected to reach Level 2 within 12 months of you promotion appointment.
Successful candidates must be prepared to undergo vetting to MV/SC level.
