We are looking for someone to #JoinUs as a Digital Forensics Lab Technician, responsible for undertaking forensic data extractions from digital devices for use in criminal investigations. Could you be who we are looking for?

About the team/Department you will be joining:

  • We are a unique and developing team in an exciting area of policing, conducting forensic examinations of digital devices for all types of criminal investigations.
  • The Digital Forensics Unit consists of two laboratories based in Cardiff and Bridgend.

 

About the role and your key responsibilities:

  • The technician roles will be based out of our labs in Pontprennau and Bridgend with opportunity to move between locations for development and experience.
  • The role will involve using forensic tools and techniques to undertake data extractions from computers, mobile phones, data storage devices and other digital media for our Digital Forensic Investigators to analyse.
  • The work undertaken within the Unit is accredited to ISO 17025 / 17020 standards as required by the Forensic Science Regulator for all forensic activities (See FSR Code of Practice, ISO17025:2017, ILAC G19), with work inspected by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). 

What skills and experience do we need you to bring to the role:

  • A passion for technology is essential as the role requires attention to detail and resilience when it comes to handling complex equipment and digital devices which may be damaged or encrypted.
  • Ability to follow precise instructions and accurately record findings is a key element to the role as required by our UKAS accreditation.
  • Knowledge of Digital Forensic tools and methodologies would be advantageous.
