We are accepting applications from Police Officers who are confirmed in rank and would like to be part of our team. We are also accepting transferee’s from other UK home office forces.

Location

North Yorkshire is one of the most scenic counties in the UK, with over 6,000 miles of road network. The RCU plays a vital role in keeping these roads safe and free from criminal exploitation. Working closely with regional partners and national agencies, we deliver high-impact operations against serious organised crime, drugs supply, and other threats that use the road network.

The Role

The Road Crime Unit is a proactive team targeting serious and organised criminality using the road network. The role supports force-wide objectives by disrupting criminal activity, targeting cross border and high-risk high harm offenders, and enhancing road safety, through specialist tactics and enhanced capabilities.

The postholder will be involved in operational deployments and have good knowledge of crime and the road crime process. Be willing to work across North Yorkshire and outside the force area. Have a strong team and work ethic and be flexible in their working processes.

Overall, successful candidates will be proactive and demonstrate a passion for pro-active policing, intelligence based policing,  be able to work under their own initiative, be able to demonstrate sound investigative skills and work to high standards.

RCU officers are required to work collaboratively with both internal and external partners both inside and outside of North Yorkshire. You support force objectives including serious organised crime, violence against women and girls, cross border, rural crime and travelling criminality.

 

Skill & Experience

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications

  • Completed probationary period and up-to-date Officer Safety Training
  • Ability to work as part of a team and use own initiative
  • Proven investigation and prioritisation skills
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal)
  • Previous experience in conducting investigations.
  • Self-motivated and flexible.

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Advanced driving, TPAC, and a solid knowledge of NYP road network and the surrounding forces.
  • Traffic Law Course (Modules 1 & 2).
  • Awareness of surveillance techniques and terminology.
  • Willingness to act as tutor/mentor to new team members

 

N.B: Training will be given to officers in these above areas.

 

Selection & Assessment

The selection process will begin with an application form and then include both an interview & a role based skills assessment. Job related Fitness Test, Medical and Vetting Clearance.

  • Security Vetting to MV Level.
  • Work in and out of Police Uniform
  • The recruitment process will follow a set programme of application, paper sift, competency-based interview, conditional offer, vetting (including biometrics), medical checks, reference checks and fitness test.
  • Confirmation of successful posting will be subject to all standard pre-employment checks, receipt of satisfactory sickness absence checks, reference and security vetting checks which meet the requirements. 
  • If successful and once posted passing the traffic law examination 1 and 2 is a mandatory requirement. Failure to do so with result in redeployment into another post.

 

Internal only

  • It is your responsibility to inform your line manager and management team of your application. (Internal only)
  • A suitability advanced driving assessment may be part of the process. If successful and appointed into the role you will be required to pass advanced driving qualifications. Failure to do so will result in redeployment into another role.
  • Applicants are required to have successfully completed their probation by the closing date to be eligible to apply.
  • Internal Applicants will be subject to the NYP officer moves policy and all moves go to the Strategic Workforce Board for a final decision. If your role is critical to that business area, you may only be released as and when your position can be filled and in agreement with your area Commander. This is to ensure business continuity and to protect front line policing in North Yorkshire.
  • Applicants disciplinary and complaints records will be checked as part of the pre-sifting process.

 

External Only

  • We only accept transferring officers from a UK Home Office Force.
  • To apply you must be a fully qualified substantive Police Constable.
  • North Yorkshire Police currently does not offer a relocation allowance/package.
