As a police detective, the most serious and complex crimes land on your desk. You’ll play a vital role in seeking truth, uncovering evidence, protecting the vulnerable and bringing justice to those affected by crime. It’s a role that demands resilience, curiosity and the ability to see beyond the surface.

Every case is different — each shaped by the quality of the evidence, the state of the victims, and your ability to engage, empathise and influence. Investigations can be lengthy and challenging, requiring emotional intelligence, patience, and determination to see each case through to the very end.

There is no room for assumption. Your enquiries are driven by facts, diligent evidence gathering, and an unwavering focus on the truth. You’ll work at the heart of some of society’s most challenging issues — from child exploitation and sexual assault to serious organised crime and murder. Your motivation: protecting victims from future harm.

You'll start your training as a Police Constable learning the very foundations of policing. This is not a typical job. It’s a unique role with ever‑changing demands. You’ll need to think on your feet, adapt quickly and stay focused under pressure. But it’s also a role that brings immense pride, purpose and moments that shape the rest of your life. From saving lives to supporting the vulnerable, the work you do matters.

Join a forward‑thinking force dedicated to keeping Derbyshire safe — a place where your ideas are valued, your development is supported, and your contribution truly makes a difference.
