The principal responsibility of the Caretaker is to provide routine maintenance service, including minor repairs and construction, so that satisfactory upkeep of police properties (including custody areas) within the given area (within a maximum geographical range of 40 km around the nominated base station), is achieved. In particular to:
- Undertake minor alterations to fixtures & fittings
- Undertake minor alterations to buildings & provide advice and knowledge on the same subject
- Provide mobile service as tasked by the Central Repairs desk and/or the Buildings Officer for that area.
- Liaise with contractors and order & supply materials to achieve the above.
- Undertake some manual lifting and carrying, sometimes of heavy items.
This list of duties is not restrictive or exhaustive and the post-holder may be required to carry out duties from time to time that are either commensurate with/or lower than the grade of the post. In some posts this might include the ad-hoc provision of guidance and informal training of new colleagues.
